Christmas From the Heart - David Archuleta

Christmas From the Heart - David Archuleta

Tis the season where I prepare myself to do many blogs on Christmas releases – movies, music, books – but allow me to start a big early by talking about my favorite Star Search alum and American Idol Season 7 sweetheart, David Archuleta. What a talent he is – sweet, cuddly, and his smooth, young voice is always rewarding to listen to on a really bad day. I will never forget his rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine” on American Idol – it made me cry and feel a sense of passion that I do not often feel for cover songs. He is young and charming – what a character.

Listening to his Christmas album is no different – in the spirit of the holidays I always love to feel the “warm fuzzies” and drink a good cup of hot chocolate in front of the fire. His release “Christmas from the Heart” is one I would recommend anybody use for a good Christmas party or a cuddle session with a lover on a snowy night. This is David Archuleta doing his finest covers – from “Joy to the World” to the tear-inducing “Ave Maria” with the Salt Lake City Children’s Choir and the City of Prague Philharmonic – one of my favorite classics, beautifully covered. Grab your tissues.

Start your holiday season a little bit early – light up the lights, decorate the tree, and grab a good cup-o-nog – put in “Christmas from the Heart”, sit back, relax, close your eyes – and take it in. It is elegant – and coming from the vocals of such a young artist – it is one to keep in your collection – he has years to go in his career – and many Christmas’ in the future to make beautifully harmonized melodies – from the heart.

Favorite track: Ave Maria

Overall Grade: A

Recommended: Light your fires, get the family – aboslutely.

AMEN to that!  It’s a beautiful Christmas album, wonderfully produced with a variety of songs to please everyone, and THAT VOICE….ho-ho-holy cow, what a voice!

I absolutely agree with your review. Ave Maria is tear-inducing! Just beautiful!! The whole cd is wonderful. I can’t stop playing it. Actually, it’s pretty much been the only thing I have been listening to since Oct 13. lol I am going to see him on his upcoming Christmas tour. It starts in less than a week!! I can’t wait. He is quite the performer. If you think he sounds good on a studio recording, then you should see him live. He will blow you away. Flawless-every note!!

Jenn- I love this review especially this part: ”It is elegant – and coming from the vocals of such a young artist – it is one to keep in your collection – he has years to go in his career – and many Christmas’ in the future to make beautifully harmonized melodies – from the heart.”Elegant is a very good word to use, and I would add tasteful.  David wanted this album to have a reverent feel to it, and he certainly succeeded.  I feel every note.    I am also completely blown away by David’s mature vocals.  Not just his voice, but his musical choices as well.. he knows where to embellish and where to be simple.  Ave Maria is just stunning.. I find myself barely breathing during certain parts of the song.  How can an 18 year old have that effect on me?  I have no idea, but I look forward to years and years of David Archuleta taking my breath away.

Thank you so much for your great review. David Archuleta deserves all the great recognition because he is indeed an amazing talented young man. I’ve seen him in concert a few times and he is unbelievable on stage! his voice is out of this world. “Christmas from the Heart” is an exquisite work of art. He sings in English, Latin, Spanish, French; his voice sounds so smooth and powerful at the same time; and even though he covers traditional Christmas songs, they sound so contemporary; I could listen to this album any time of the year. David is truly a remarkable artist.

I totally agree with your review! I love this album. The overall sound is gorgeous and David’s voice sounds amazing with the orchestra. The album is both traditional and modern, the arrangements are inventive and David’s pop and soul touch on many of the tracks make each one unique. Even if you think you would never love a Christmas album, give this one a try, Especially if you are an Archuleta fan of any religion. David hopes you will feel his spirit and faith in your own way, as I do.  And BTW – this week you can preview the whole CD at the AOL CD listening party page. And be sure to watch Kaleidoscope on FOX on Thanksgiving because David sang 3 carols in the live taping. Hopefully they will all be in the broadcast. The show also has a lot of famous pro ice skaters.

  • RJ says:

David’s vocals on this album is exemplary, as to be expected.  But I advise you to close your eyes and listen to the orchestration of the songs.  Close your eyes and let these songs transport you to your favorite movie scene, unforgettable moment with a lover, or a fantasy unfulfilled — whatever they may be.  You wouldn’t want to come back!  Just make sure you’re not operating any vehicle.

  • Sevgi says:

I completely agree with this review. Christmas From the Heart is absolutely beautiful.

Thank you, thank you Jenn for a great review.  David sure knows how to take you to a totally different place with his voice and especially with these beautiful heartfelt songs.  I can’t even imagine that he has several years still to grow and get better.  He is just going to kill us every year with each new CD, song and performance.  Another thing I am looking forward to is a Spanish CD which he said he will do sometime in the near future – sooner than later – I hope!!

  • Lena says:

Nice to hear that you enjoyed the CD as much as I did. Thanks for taking the time to write and post the review.

Thank you so much for the awesome comments! I have truly appreciated reading them and am loving all of the David Archuleta respect – this is a talented young man – and an amazing CD to boot! Thank you everyone!
